Following severe storm systems, tornadoes, and flash flooding, the City of Gary, Indiana declared a local disaster emergency. The devastation left structural destruction across neighborhoods, downed power lines, and triggered widespread, multi-week power outages that left tens of thousands of families without basic necessities. Countless residents—especially vulnerable seniors, single mothers, and children—are facing spoiled food supplies, displaced housing, and critical shortages of emergency essentials.
